ABOUT NIC ROC

CEO, Program Director & Brand Strategist Consultant

Capricorn / Enneagram Type 8: The Challenger / Love Language: Words of Affirmation

Nic Roc is the founder and program director of You Belong Here. Skilled in product development and manufacturing, design and fabrication, brand strategy, branding and identity, and program development, she works with purpose-driven businesses in the professional consulting industry. She also has an extensive history in community program development—strongly focused on inclusion, diversity, and social infrastructure.

In fact, Nic Roc is certified in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the Workplace and Entrepreneur Management Center development via the International Business Innovation Association.

Nic Roc is the recipient of the RISE ILIA 2020 Agent of Change award, which honors an individual who has shown dedication and action to make sustainable and systemic change by creation of innovative programs, platforms, and partnerships. It recognized my work in assisting the community’s ability to thrive in education, social enterprise, and advocacy.

FUN FACTS ABOUT NIC:

Motto: Everything is “figureoutable”. Everything!!

In moments of challenge: Before I make a decision, I often ask myself, “ If I do this, who will I become. If I don’t do this, who will I become?”

Pizza toppings? Pepperoni. #BasicBitch

Likes: Twinkling lights, disco lights, laser lights, Christmas light- ALL THINGS LIGHTS!

Who do you look up to? My parents. My late aunt Maria. My godmother. My community; for their bravery, their honesty, their strength and resilience, and for being a mirror so that I may see that I am in a state of endlessly becoming.

What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned from starting your own business? Failure is the key to success. Discomfort is the stimulus to growth. Defeat is a mindset, not a destination.

Dream client? A small business that wants to change the world.

Who/What’s your spirit animal? A cheetah. I will never be tamed.

BUILDING YOu Belong Here

YBH was birthed from the desire and need to have more connection with the community; to celebrate and learn more about cultural identities within the San Diego and Tijuana region. As a woman in business, Nic recognized firsthand the barriers to entry when it comes to starting a business. She wanted to build a space where people within the community could come for resources and collaborate, connect, amplify their voices, share, learn, and teach one another—as a way to build their businesses and turn their ideas and concepts into reality.

In 2018 Nic helped build—from scratch and with her own hands and money, and a loan from a friend—what is now You Belong Here.
