You Belong Here invites you to our newest program, One for the Books, a bookkeeping accountability and support sesh!
This is a quarterly series - the first Sunday of the month.
WHY BOOKKEEPING?
In 2021, You Belong Here surveyed and interviewed over 150 creatives in the San Diego region, regarding the health of their creative endeavors and businesses, as well as asking them to select and list areas of business development they felt they needed support in.
Of the 125 who completed the survey, ~45% responded with a desire for stronger financial literacy knowledge. While an astounding ~37% of people who responded said that they desired training and support in bookkeeping. You Belong Here wants to answer that call for support!
Our vision is to Bridge the gap between Creativity and Sustainability. We want to help our Creative Artists and Small Businesses reach economic prosperity. That starts with understanding your financial foundations and most especially your books!
We know how boring the idea of bookkeeping may sound, but when you get in the habit of doing so, you’ll be able to monitor and evaluate the health of your business and or creative endeavor. Understanding your books will help you to understand your liabilities, owner’s equity, overall profit, and provide an overview of money coming in and out. Once you nail this business development necessity, you’ll have a deeper understanding on how you can grow your wealth. Plus, you’ll be ready for quarterly sales taxes and for filing Federal and State taxes–literally one of the most stressful things about running a business.

MEET YOUR BOOKKEEPING SUPPORT GURU
Nic Roc - Owner and Program Director of You Belong Here
Nic has over 14 years of experience successfully launching and operating three small businesses. She is skilled in small business development, brand strategy, design and fabrication, creative direction, and program development.
She began her journey in business with absolutely no clue as to what she was doing or even understanding how to operate a business, let alone do her books. For the first five years of running her first business, she never touched bookkeeping, as it seemed it was something that didn’t really apply to her. She did everything she could to stay away from taxes. Because you know, if you don’t see it, it doesn’t exist right?? :o)
That would eventually come back to bite her in the ass! Drowning in debt, living paycheck to paycheck, having no savings and investments, inventory expenses out of the roof— Nic decided it was time to get serious about her financial future. She hired a bookkeeper and began to learn the ins and outs of bookkeeping. It is with her thorough understanding of bookkeeping that she was able to evaluate risk, diversify income, and emphasize services that were bringing in higher revenue streams and devise an action plan to help grow You Belong Here. Throughout 2020, YBH was forced to be closed due to COVID. Nic reopened the doors of You Belong Here in May of 2021 (after 15 months of closure). After reviewing 2019s Profit and Loss sheet; she understood the changes she needed to make in her business to begin generating revenue. Within seven months, she increased her gross revenue compared to 2019 by 150%. Thanks to understanding bookkeeping basics, Nic was able to grow during a pandemic.
DISCLAIMER: Nic Roc is not a licensed bookkeeper or financial coach/advisor. She is a seasoned business owner who can help with bookkeeping basics (inputting and categorizing expenses, running reports, etc.).
By purchasing a ticket she is in no way offering or providing bookkeeping services and cannot be listed as your bookkeeper.
If you need a bookkeeper please check for resources from your local Small Business Development Center.
