To Fall In Love in Edinburgh: SD Artists Bound for Scotland’s Famous Fringe Festival

If you’ve spent much time with us, you’ve probably noticed that we always have art on our walls, and all types of artists coming through our doors.  What can we say? We love art, and we love artists of all disciplines.

We’re stoked that we have the opportunity to support a couple of San Diego-based actors as they prepare to take their show on the road—to the largest art festival in the world: the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

What is the Edinburgh Festival Fringe?

For a few weeks every August (since 1947!) Scotland’s capital hosts thousands of shows in hundreds of venues. Shows include theater, comedy, dance, cabaret, musicals, opera, and more, plus a heap of exhibits and events all over the city streets. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is often described as an “explosion of creative energy,” with performers flocking from around the globe to participate—even from our little corner of Southern California.

San Diego play headed to Edinburgh

The dramatic play, “To Fall In Love,” (winner of the Outstanding Writing and Outstanding Drama awards at San Diego’s own Fringe Festival in 2017), has nabbed at spot at Edinburgh’s fest this year, and the team is working to fundraise their way across the pond.

In April, the cast of two (San Diego-based actors Beth Gallagher and Eric Casalini) performed a run of eight site-specific shows out of a little house in Pacific Beach. Most were sold out. For those of you who missed it, we’re happy to report that this Sunday, they’re going to do one more matinee performance at YBH.

Diving deep into themes of love, guilt, and forgiveness, local playwright Jennifer Lane’s gorgeously written drama provides a fly-on-the wall glimpse into the private life of two people trying to revive their relationship by answering the 36 questions one scientist proved could be used to generate intimacy. The questions range from “Who would you want as a dinner guest?” to “What, if anything, is too serious to be joked about?” As the play progresses and the story of the couple’s relationship unfolds, you’ll find yourself rooting for the characters—or even full-on in love with them.

“To Fall in Love” is a beautiful work of art, and we hope you can join us for Saturday’s performance. A portion of the proceeds will go toward sending the play’s cast to Edinburgh to rep our little corner of the world.

Please join us on Saturday, July 20th at 3:00 pm. Tickets are $20 online or $25 at the door. Buy your tickets here
