You Belong Here and Chelsey Birgisdóttir invite you to The Get Out The Vote Ballot Party, on Tuesday, October 25th from 6-8pm.
The ballot party is our way of making civics and politics fun and not overwhelming.
Our panelists will guide you through understanding the anatomy of the propositions and measures, and how to conduct your own thorough research on the candidates so you can make an informed vote.
Our general election is quickly approaching, Tuesday, November 8th and we want to be here to help you best prepare.
This will be an in-person event and a recording of the event will be available 24 Hours post the event to help those who are unable to attend.
Schedule + Program Format
6pm: Registration, Mingle
6 :10pm: Event starts, Review agenda
6:15pm: Brief overview of voting logistics and voter rights
6 :20pm: Presentation of propositions and measures ( 5 min presentation + 5 min Q&A per prop/measure)7 :20pm: How to do your own research on candidates
7 :30pm: Breakout groups; discussion amongst attendees
7 :45pm: Closing & Check out (thoughts, reflections)
7 :50pm: Mix and mingle

This event is FREE and is open to all ages.
Unfortunately, due to a lack of resources, we will not be able to provide the programming in alternative languages. However, we will be able to provide a list of resources that offer voter information in alternative languages. Please inquire at hello@youbelongsd.com
MEET THE SPEAKERS
JUDITH VAUGHS (she/her) | Vice Chair of Planned Parenthood Volunteer Program PPNOVA
Judith Vaughs is the daughter of two U.S. Veterans, an SDSU Alumni, and Community Organizer in the San Diego community. Through her advocacy, she has been able to propose new social programs for San Diego county and is actively working alongside the Invest in San Diego Families Coalition to pass new policies that promote health equity. She currently works as an Organizer for Planned Parenthood Pacific Southwest, serves as the Vice Chair for Planned Parenthood’s national Volunteer Program PPNOVA, and the Secretary for BNew Youth Development Corporation.
MIKEY KNAB | DIRECTOR OF POLICY at Climate Action Campaign
Mikey Knab believes in an equitable and just world where all can thrive, and that is not possible without bold action to address the climate crisis. He is values-driven professional with over 15 years of leadership level experience in both non-profit organizations and for-profit companies, skilled at building teams, program and operation management, policy advocacy, strategic communication, and fundraising.
He has always dedicated his time to community-based equity and resiliency work alongside his professional career. To that end, as he grew the restaurant company that he ran for 16 years, he also served in the following capacities:
President of the Adams Avenue Business Association from 2014 - 2022
Co-founded Business For Good San Diego in 2016, continuing to serve as Board Chair
Co-led the Healthy Soils Coalition advocating for responsible organic waste management in San Diego in 2017
Co-founded The Goods Show SD in 2011, highlighting local artists and vendors and showcasing their work to consumers in a welcoming, celebratory atmosphere on the biggest shopping day of the year: Black Friday
jean-huy (he/him)
jean-huy is a queer Vietnamese immigrant who migrated to the US in 1990. He is a local San Diego activist and organizer in various partisan and nonpartisan spaces, including the Indivisible network in San Diego, We the People SD, Progressive Democratic Club, #TeamJustice coalition, SD API coalition, Community Budget Alliance and Viet Vote. His advocacy includes criminal justice reform, social, racial and economic justice and equity, rent stabilization, mass surveillance technology, police accountability, state legislation and but his most favorite: voter education.
Cody Hooven | Consultant for the Measure B campaign
Cody is a dynamic public policy leader in the fields of energy, climate, and sustainability. She is the Founder and CEO of Lupa Affairs, a people-first firm that serves government, private sector, and non-profit clients that are changing the world. She was the driving force that built and launched San Diego Community Power, the second-largest public power agency in California. She put San Diego on the map as a global leader in climate and created space for local conversations about climate equity. She is known for her entrepreneurial abilities and is respected for negotiating progress on major public policies, working towards change for families and businesses. She participates in several community organizations including as a Board member of the San Diego Urban Sustainability Coalition and as a court-appointed special advocate for foster youth. She has an open-door policy for Sunday dinners for humans and dogs.
DIKE ANYIWO (he/him) | Chair of the Midway-Pacific Highway Community Planning Group
Dike Anyiwo is a first-generation American born and raised in Southern California. Dike attended UC Riverside where he studied Business Economics. After relocating to San Diego in 2012, Dike worked in community relations and human resources roles, before transitioning to marketing, then public relations, public policy and now government relations.
An active member of his community, Dike joined the Midway-Pacific Highway Community Planning Board in October 2018 and was subsequently selected by his peers as the group’s representative at the Community Planners Committee.
In 2020 he was unanimously voted as Vice Chair and served as a principal officer for the campaign committee of the victorious Measure E campaign to exempt the Midway District from the archaic 30-ft coastal height limit, and in 2022 Dike was unanimously voted to serve as Chair of the CPG.
