How to Get Free Press for Your (Client's) Company
Calling all writers, editors, content marketers, content strategists, and thought leaders!
Imagine your name -- or your client's -- as a byline to a media article that raises awareness, demonstrates something new, and drives demand for your industry. How do you make that happen?
Content marketing is about push and pull. You push valuable content out on your branded website (e.g., through your blog) and you work to pull in traffic from other sites by encouraging industry magazines to publish your company's thought leadership. The latter is, of course, more difficult.
In this hour, we'll talk to Hilary Achauer, who has successfully pitched to Men’s Health, Greatist, SheKnows, and San Diego Magazine, and has bylined more than 100 articles about the topic of fitness. Hilary has been instrumental in making the brand CrossFit a thought leader in fitness, and once hiked a 14,000-foot peak to help a wellness brand tell its story.
In this workshop we’ll cover:
-the difference between a subject and an angle (and why this matters)
-crafting an effective pitch
-how to find the best publication/website for your story (and brand)
-contacting and working with editors
-decoding journalism jargon
